roller hockey fans, let’s give it up for our 2009 national champions
No. 7 and No. 8, crowned Saturday at the Annual
2Hot4Ice National Games at the Dreamsports Center in Apex, N.C., just outside Raleigh. 2Hot4Ice’s newest champions are the D Young Gunz and Carolina Black Jacks. The Young Gunz, whose jersey graces the memory of Deebs Young, defeated the Richmond Rattlers White 5-1 Saturday evening for their sixth tournament win without a loss and the 18U Gold division title. The Rattlers White had advanced to the division title showdown with a thrilling 4-3 win in overtime over Team Carolina in one 18U semifinal. The Young Gunz reached the final by defeating the Speed 5-1 in the other semi. Earlier in the evening the Carolina Black Jacks won for the second time on Saturday, stopping the Greensboro Spyders 4-1 in the 18U Silver division finale. The Black Jacks earned their championship game berth with a 5-1 win of their own, over the Tour Bandits. Advancing their cause Saturday were the 8GR DSD White, 8U DSC Dragons and Richmond Rattlers Black, the 10U Gold/Silver Richmond Rattlers Black, the Platinum/Gold 12U Richmond Rattlers Black, the 12U Silver/Bronze Peachtree City Prowl and Richmond Rattlers Grey, the Adult D Young Gunz and the Masters Dream Sports Dragons. Each won two games to inch closer to a spot in one of Sunday’s division championship games. Saturday also brought the final three installments of the Reebok Skill Competitions. The 8U winners and runnersup were: Breakaway -- Charley Barry, Mad Dogs, and Austin Dye, Peachtree City Prowl; Fastest Skater Jacob Meyers and Casey Adams; Shooting Accuracy Robbie Blankenship, Speed, and Colton Helbeck, Charlotte Jr. Checkers; and Goalie Stone Wall Austin Reiss, Speed, and Jessica Lehning, DSC Dragons. 10U: Breakaway Tommy Barnes, DSC Red, and Austin McGarra, Cooler Maniacs; Fastest Skater Tommy Barnes, DSC Red, and Ryan Burke, DSC Red; Shooting Accuracy Robbie Baldwin, Mad Dogs, and Tommy Barnes, DSC Red; and Goalie Stone Wall Ben Tallman, Richmond Rattlers, and Grant Hucaluk, Cooler Maniacs and Mykila Edwards, Richmond Rattlers. 12U: Breakaway Charlie Berry, Mad Dogs, and Austin Dye, Peachtree City Prowl; Fastest Skater Logan Nasr, Mad Dogs, and Niles Muncie, Richmond Rattlers Black; Shooting Accuracy Tyler Folts, Mad Dogs, and Kyle Eng, Mad Dogs; and Goalie Stone Wall Trevor Dyke, Richmond Rattlers, and ZackPettit, Richmond Rattlers. Sunday figures to be as good as it gets when it comes to outstanding inline roller hockey and fiery competition. A whopping 11 2Hot4Ice national champions will be crowned in these divisions: 8GR, 8U, 10U Gold, 10U Silver, 10U Bronze, 12U Platinum, 12U Gold, 12U Silver, 12U Bronze, Adult and Masters, with the latter closing the 2009 2Hot4Ice Nationals at 7:10 p.m. In case you missed it, 2Hot4Ice on Saturday announced the individual award winners for the two divisions that had determined their national champions on Friday. The 14U honorees are Wyatt Sexton of Team Carolina 94, Deebs Young Award; Daniel Brown of Team Carolina 94, the Revision top dishman; and Tucker Murphy of the Richmond Rattlers, the Eschelon top goalie. Among the 16U division players honored were: Patrick Haynes, the Deebs Young recipient; Brandon Finch, the Revision top dishman; and Colin Catherman, the Eschelon top goalie. |
