2Hot4Ice’s 2009 National Games were every bit as competitive as the inline roller hockey series’ founder, Clay Ladouceur, thought they would be after 12 spirited regional qualifiers stretching back to October.

So it was no surprise that six of the 11 national championships won on Sunday were decided by one goal, including the Danville Patriots’ 4-3
decision over the hometowin Dreamsports Dragons in the very last game, the 189th of 2Hot4Ice’s penultimate event.

Sunday’s other one-goal national champions are the Peachtree City (Ga.)
Prowl, which tamed the Speed 4-3 in the 10U Bronze division final; the
Richmond Rattlers Black, who prevailed 3-2 over the DSD Red in the 10U
Gold title game; Team Carolina 96, a 3-2 winner over the Carolina Tsunami
in the 12U Gold finale; the Richmond Rattlers Grey, also a 3-2 victor over
the Carolina Fusion in their 12U Silver championship matchup; and D Young
Gunz, which denied the Richmond Robins 2-1 in the Adult Gold windup.

The other 2Hot4Ice national champions, each crowned Sunday, are:

The first-ever 8 Grass Roots division winner, the Dreamsports Dragons,
who beat the Greensboro Spyders 5-3.

The 8U DSD Red, which gave the Dreamsports Center its second of three
2009 national championships when they defeated the Richmond Rattlers Black 3-0.

The Cooler Maniacs, out of Alpharetta, Ga., who dispatched the DSD Blue
4-1 in the 10U Silver title showdown.

The Speed, based in nearby Raleigh, which headed off the DSD Red 4-2 in the 12U Bronze final.

And the Richmond Rattlers Black skaters who dominated the 12U Platinum division by winning all six of their games, including a 6-1 win over the Mad Dogs in the championship game.

The Richmond Rattlers paced all the organizations in Apex with four 2009
national titles. They were followed by the hometown Dreamsports Dragonsand Team Carolina with three. Peachtree City and D Young Gunz had two apiece.
